Here are some practical tips to help you feel calm, prepared, and focused during exam week:

1. Know Where You’re Going

  • The NBHWC exam is administered at Prometric test centers.

  • Plan your route before exam day. Some centers are tucked away in office parks or hard-to-find spots.

  • Consider doing a drive-by earlier in the week, especially if it’s far or unfamiliar.

  • On test day, give yourself extra time—GPS glitches happen! (I drove in circles for 15 minutes trying to find mine 😅.)

2. Dress for Comfort

  • Wear cozy layers—test centers can be chilly or warm.

  • No hats, scarves, or bulky jackets allowed once you’re in the room, so stick to simple, comfy clothes.

3. Be Ready for Security Procedures

  • Prometric is strict. Expect a metal detector scan and a body check (they may even inspect your sleeves, ankles, and ears).

  • All personal items will go into a locker, including phones, wallets, notes, food, and water.

4. Take Advantage of the Break

  • You’ll have a 15-minute break between exam sections. Take it!

  • Bring a water bottle and a snack to fuel up—something easy and energizing like a banana, protein bar, or sandwich.

  • Use the restroom and stretch—your brain will thank you.

5. Fuel Your Brain

  • The basics matter: get a solid night’s sleep the night before, and eat a good meal beforehand.

  • Avoid showing up hungry, over-caffeinated, or under-rested. You want to feel resourced and ready.
